Význam iktových jednotek pro léčbu cévních mozkových příhod

Cévní příhody mozkové - ikty - představují závažné onemocnění s vysokou mortalitou i morbiditou. Jsou třetí nejčastější příčinou úmrtí a představují asi 36 % v celkovém počtu všech srdečních a cirkulačních poruch. Bylo dosaženo již značných pokroků v primární a zejména v sekundární prevenci iktů, ale ve vlastní terapii iktů jsou pokroky dosud menší. V současné době je hlavní důraz kladen na změnu organizace péče o ikty, především v prvních fázích nemoci. Iktus musí být posuzován jako urgentní (emergentní) stav. Nezbytným předpokladem pro zahájení včasné terapie je dobrá organizace celé léčebné péče. Dosavadní zkušenosti i výsledky řady studií jednoznačně prokázaly, že organizovaná péče o pacienty na iktových jednotkách je efektivnější než péče konvenční. Budování iktových jednotek a reorganizace péče o akutní ikty jsou proto zcela oprávněné.
