Článek obsahuje přehled jak akutních, tak chronických forem polékových extrapyramidových syndromů (EPS) se zaměřením na vedlejší účinky neuroleptik. Zaměřuje se na jejich klinický obraz a na možnosti jejich terapeutického ovlivnění. Dále přináší několik kazuistik ilustrujících jednotlivé EPS.

Mezi léčiva, způsobující často EPS, patří řada lékových skupin - antidepresiva, thymoprofylaktika, antiparkinsonika a nejčastěji neuroleptika. EPS můžeme rozdělit na akutní formy - akutní polékový parkinsonský syndrom, akutní dystonii, akutní akatizii a chronické formy, mezi které počítáme řadu typů tardivních dyskinezí (klasická dyskineze, dystonie, akatizie, tremor, myoklonus, tiky) a konečně tardivní parkinsonský syndrom. K léčbě neuroleptiky či preparáty, které mohou EPS vyvolávat, musíme vždy přistupovat s vědomím tohoto rizika.
