Zánětlivé myopatie tvoří heterogenní skupinu získaných myopatií. Popsána hlavní symptomatika, diagnostika a terapie idiopatických zánětlivých myopatií, kam se řadí polymyozitida, dermatomyozitida a myozitida s inkluzními tělísky. Polymyozitida i dermatomyozitida se mohou vyskytovat samostatně, ale častá je i asociace s jinými autoimunitními chorobami. Je upozorněno i na nejčastější nežádoucí účinky při dlouhodobé léčbě steroidy a možnosti jejich prevence. Samostatně je zmíněna akutní benigní dětská myozitida a HIV myozitida.
