Post-poliomyelitický syndrom

Postpoliomyelitickým syndromem je nazýván soubor obtíží, které vedou u jedinců po kdysi prodělané dětské obrně k výraznému horšení jejich dosud dlouhodobě stabilizovaného zdravotního stavu. Objevuje se u nich a progresivně narůstá celá řada příznaků buď myoskeletárních nebo neuromuskulárních, často obojích. Jednoznačné vysvětlení pro tyto nové progregredující neuromuskulární symptomy se dlouho nedařilo nalézt, i když existuje více hypotéz. Příčiny budou nepochybně jak funkční v souvislosti s chronickým přetížením motorických axonů, tak zřejmě imunopatologické, zejména vzhledem k  likvorologickým nálezům ve smyslu zánětlivého autoimunního procesu.
